Fringe Reviews 2011

"Irish musician Kayla Kavanagh uses her expertise with all things digital to create something unique: a multi-instrument blend of modern and traditional sounds, featuring vocal looping and other effects – all performed live and without a harmonica in sight.

As well as studying music to Master’s level, the Irish soloist has even found time to learn a brand new instrument – the electronic Eigenharp – which she uses to help build up the layers of her unique and beguiling sound.

This year, her free show gives you the chance to hear all the richness and melodic appeal of her recorded work live as Kayla continues to forge her own, distinctive musical path."

Audience Reviews During The Fringe

"Kayla's talent is sublime....she plays a range of her music from folk style acoustic, Joni Mitchell stuff, to indie Beth Orton style ballads, and some very cool Imogen Heap style electronica. The difference is she does all the blending, effects, mixing etc live in front of you.

For each track, Kayla plays a main instrument, like guitar, keyboard or this amazing Eigenharp (above), and then uses recording equipment and wizardry to mix and blend her voice, play it back in places whilst she plays other bits, or to create an effect like a mixed track. It's impressive to behold, and musically fantastic too." - acronymphomania

"Wow! What an unbelievable talent! This Free Fringe event will over-shadow a lot of gigs you'll pay hard cash for! A great voice, original material and all delivered via a range of instruments from acoustic to electronic. Do yourself a huge favour and get down to Venue 110 for a real musical treat! 5-star!!" - Guy Martin

"We liked you and your music so much, we're coming back tonight :)" - weever_uk

"Kayla Kavanagh. One word- awesome." - @only1neville

"Kayla Kavanagh - warm soulful tones, with something for everyone. Great show." - LoveFringe
